The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in the United States minister in a variety of settings serving in pastoral services, spiritual and retreat ministries, holistic therapies, program administrators, board members and volunteers in an assortment of endeavors focusing on persons in need. The Sisters’ foundational ministries are prayer and healing presence. The US Area currently sponsors five ministries that include:
- Centennial Barn, a venue for social and business events and programs.
- Franciscans for the Poor, a volunteer service program for young adults.
- Franciscan Gardens, a community garden serving local gardeners and immigrant communities.
- Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart, hair care services to persons of low or no income.
- Tamar’s Place, a haven for women involved in prostitution and those who struggle with the disease of addiction.
