Job Description



Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church (OLM) is located in Aurora, IL in the Diocese of Joliet, and is a parish of 3,600 families committed to the New Evangelization and making disciples.  Our desire is to offer every person in our community a life-changing encounter with Jesus.  OLM is seeking an experienced Catholic Director of Liturgy and Music who can inspire the faithful to deepen their relationship with Jesus through music and worship.  The Director of Liturgy & Music is a full-time paid position with benefits, reporting directly to the Pastor.

An Overview of Responsibilities:


  • Develop, coordinate and implement a total parish program of worship that engages the full conscious active participation of parishioners
  • Provides for the continuing liturgical formation and education of the parish, staff, liturgical ministers, Worship Commission and Art & Environment Committee
  • Ensures that the norms of liturgical documents and Diocesan directives are implemented
  • Provide leadership and assistance to the parish Worship Commission
  • Recruit, train and coordinate all persons involved in liturgical ministries
  • Oversees and sets policies for the Art & Environment Committee
  • Monitors liturgical furnishing, vestments, and supplies
  • Works with the Faith Formation Commission in planning and presenting the annual Parish Mission
  • Provides for the periodic evaluation of the quality of the worship celebrations and liturgical ministries
  • Supervise the upgrade of current sound system
  • Participates in the parish budget process


  • Develop a prayerful, singing assembly
  • Responsible for all music associated with worship in the parish
  • Directs adult choir and other choirs as determined
  • Responsible for recruiting and training competent musicians to staff all Sunday and Holy Day liturgies. Director is expected to accompany or direct choir(s) for 4 of 6 Sunday Masses

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in music and liturgy
  • Prefer candidate with 5 years experience in a leadership liturgy/music role in a Catholic parish setting
  • Proficiency in piano, organ and voice
  • Work collaboratively with pastor
