Seton Teaching Fellow

  • Seton Teaching Fellows
  • New York, NY, USA
Full time Education: Elementary Education: Middle/High School Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, Youth Mission Work Religious Education

Job Description

About the Program. Seton Teaching Fellows (STF) is an initiative of Seton Education Partners, participating in its mission to serve underprivileged children and give them the opportunity to develop the knowledge, character, and faith necessary to earn a college degree, pursue lives of value and integrity, and become saints.

Seton Teaching Fellows is a post-graduate mission opportunity that seeks to bring the Catholic faith to the margins of American society. A fellow helps students, their families, and peers know, love, and serve Christ and his Church, developing the habits, dispositions, and beliefs indispensable to human flourishing and happiness. He or she does this by teaching at a classically-inspired, virtue-based charter school connected to an explicitly Catholic faith formation program in the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district in America. Grounding their work within an intentional faith-based community, a Fellow receives the spiritual, sacramental, and communal nourishment necessary for forming disciples in this world and saints in the next.

About Seton. Seton Education Partners was co-founded in 2009 by KIPP Foundation co-founder Scott Hamilton and Teach For America alumna Stephanie Saroki de García to expand opportunities for traditionally underserved children to receive a Catholic education that builds knowledge, character, and faith. Seton does this by strategically infusing creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and talented leadership to reverse the widespread decline of urban Catholic education. Seton pioneers new, “break-the-mold” approaches to achieving the academic, character, religious and social justice goals of Catholic education in an economically viable way.

About the position. We’re looking for dynamic, faith-filled leaders who love working with kids, are passionate about serving the poor, and want to help underserved children make it to college and heaven. We’re looking for committed Christians who want to grow spiritually by living in an intentional faith community. We’re looking for tenacious servants who believe every child can learn and grow in virtue, and are ready to develop into great leaders. We’re looking for people who welcome challenges and are eager to lend their talents to making a dramatic difference in the lives of hundreds of children.

The key responsibilities include:

Working at a Great School

  • Co-teach or work in Operations at Brilla Charter Schools, a network of high-performing public charter schools in the South Bronx that currently serves almost 700 students in grades K-5, across three different schools. For the 2018-2019 school year, our network will serve students in grades K-6 and continue to grow a grade each year until 8th grade.

Witnessing the Faith

  • Teach Catechism and character to children in a unique Catholic extended day enrichment program called  El Camino Faith Formation Program. El Camino serves students at Brilla Public Charter Schools and committed to the ideals of the New Evangelization.
  • Live in an intentional Catholic faith community that focuses on growing spiritually and living simply.
  • Participate in an acclaimed young adult formation program that includes three retreats per year, weekly formation, spiritual direction, access to weekly adoration and the sacraments, and networking with other young Catholics in NYC.

Qualifications and Desired Characteristics

  • Faith-filled Catholic who seeks God in all things and is called to serve others.
  • Core belief that all children can achieve both moral and academic excellence.
  • Relentless, results-oriented achiever who is always looking for a better way to improve outcomes for their students.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
