Job Description

Role Purpose

The primary role of the Communications Coordinator is to be the custodian of all internal and external communication, media, and public relations activity. In fulfilling this role, you will help create communication and media plans and implement communication activities, track and analyze their performance while ensuring that the overall branding and strategic objectives of St Teresa of Avila Church are met.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Participate in the development and implementation of campus-wide strategic communications planning.
  • Develop comprehensive communications strategies that support the overall strategic direction of the parish.
  • Assess communications programs, report findings and recommend improvements.
  • Provide expertise and share knowledge on appropriate responses to issues.
  • Provide expertise and share knowledge with internal staff members, and volunteers on internal communications projects and media events.

Internal and External Communications

  • Create communication strategies and schedules and formulate appropriate messaging for materials to be communicated to internal and external audiences
  • Initiate, promote and encourage effective internal and external communications strategies and practices at all levels of the parish
  • Co-lead the creation, editorial planning, content development, layout and production of parish bulletins, social media platforms, and electronic newsletters
  • Oversee the research and development of news releases, articles, editorials, publications and other written communications products
  • Assist with writing and coordinating speeches, briefing notes, and media articles for internal clients

Parish Reporting

  • Guide messaging in the development and management of the Annual Report and communication tools required for the Parish Catalog
  • Co-manage and report on media measurement statistics

Media Relations

  • Manage proactive and reactive media relations to obtain and shape news coverage of St. Teresa of Avila Church
  • Assists the Pastor to act as  spokesperson and coordinates and prepares internal subject matter experts to media requests
  • Oversees the development of story ideas

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Some items to be considered for the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in the areas of Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related area, master’s a plus
  • Understanding of Roman Catholicism, a plus
  • 5-7 years experience in a related field requested
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must receive a Protecting God’s Children certificate
