Department:  Advancement

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Schedule:  Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Occasional evenings and weekends.

The Stewardship Officer will develop, direct, and implement a comprehensive stewardship program that strengthens donor ties to the University. The officer will produce and deliver content, materials, and reports to donors that explain in a compelling way the impact of donors’ philanthropic gifts; that communicate the institution’s gratitude; and that motivate donors to continue and upgrade their giving.




  1. Identify and capture compelling stories that exemplify the fulfillment of the University’s mission, in the form of testimonials from students, alumni, parents, friends, and benefactors. Work with other university offices (president, MarCom, conferences & evangelization, etc.), in utilizing short videos from key stakeholders that can be delivered to donors in a coordinated and targeted manner.


  1. Oversee reporting to scholarship donors, including an appropriate financial summary, the names of the student recipients, and expressions of gratitude form the students that are sincere and compelling. Develop additional ways to steward scholarship founders through events and/or more personalized touches from student recipients.


  1. Prepare informal and formal reports to donors at all levels, but particularly at the Leadership level, that illuminate the impact of their contributions, using data, student and alumni stories, and other content, tailored to donors in a segmented and/or personalized way.


  1. Work with deans, department chairs, and faculty to identify news and successes within academic programs that would be of interest to alumni from particular programs or who are working in related fields. Deliver these updates to alumni in a variety of ways to strengthen their affinity and increase their likelihood of giving.


  1. Assist Advancement leadership and gift officers in preparing and delivering customized impact reports and other stewardship touches to President’s Circle members, major donors to capital campaigns, and leadership donors to other key areas.


  1. Assist annual giving staff as needed with stewardship on a broader scale, in order to drive greater donor retention and alumni participation in giving. Such stewardship efforts may from time to time include segmented email blasts, social media posts, compilation of prayer intentions, thank-you “gifts,” etcetera.


  1. Assist the Executive Director in overseeing the donor acknowledgment process and assist event staff with donor events such as Thousand Thanks, scholarship luncheons, receptions, etcetera.

Must understand, support and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following:


Work Experience


  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in donor relations, fund raising, alumni relations, or customer service.




  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Creativity in developing persuasive content and targeting it to appropriate audiences.
  • Sensitivity to constituent’s needs and concerns, strong customer service mindset/interpersonal skills.




  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a communications-related field.


Technical Skills


  • Competence in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work with fund raising or customer databases, preferably Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge/NXT.
  • Familiarity and skill with popular social media platforms.


Workplace Factors


  • Occasional evenings and weekends.
