Job Description

Seeking a creative, motivated, vision- and mission-centric individual to lead OSV’s flagship publication into the future. The individual is responsible for overseeing the planning, editing and publication of the Our Sunday Visitor weekly newspaper, the website OSVNews.com, daily newsletter Our Sunday Visitor News Now, and related social media channels. The Our Sunday Visitor Editor is the leader of a collaborative, creative team that seeks to provide the very best in Catholic commentary, analysis and catechesis. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees content-first process for the creation and distribution of digital and print content for Our Sunday Visitor
  • Plans content of Our Sunday Visitor and OSVNews.com and directs distribution of content over a variety of channels
  •  Works closely with Managing Editor to supervise and coordinate a team of internal and external writers and editors  
  • Directs the design and production of Our Sunday Visitor in coordination with OSV’s Design and Production Departments
  • Leads regular meetings, including daily planning meetings with staff and regular content generation meetings
  •  Works with Editorial Director for Periodicals on overall vision and mission of Our Sunday Visitor, ensuring that content is in line with OSV’s editorial policies
  • Assists Editorial Director for Periodicals in preparing an annual budget for approval by the Publisher and senior leaders, and monitors budget accordingly
  • Coordinates and plans with the Marketing Department and the Advertising Department as necessary in providing editorial assistance in the marketing and promotion of the newspaper and its advertising-related inserts and other materials.
  • Represents Our Sunday Visitor publicly in the capacity of Editor on the local, national and international levels
  • Accomplishes all other tasks or duties as assigned 



·      At least 7-9 years of experience in Catholic publishing

·      Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church 

·      Preferred experience writing or editing for a national publication



·      Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or equivalent

·      Coursework in theology preferred 


Skills and Abilities:

·      Proficient in areas of digital communication

·      Strong social media skills

·      Excellent verbal and written communication

·      Strong understanding of Catholic Church teachings and practices 

·      Willingness and interest in working as part of a creative, collaborative team


Working Environment:

  • On-site, hybrid, or remote, depending on the candidate, with occasional travel necessary
