Job Description

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking to hire a Program Director for the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).  This position works within a community of practitioner scholars dedicated to providing relevant, rigorous, and relational academic opportunities for adult learners. The Program Director leads and provides oversight for the program curriculum, student academic and research advising, teaching, academic output, enrollment, program budgets, accreditation, hiring and support of faculty, and overall administration of the program. The DBA Program Director works closely with other units within the University, including but not limited to Student Central, Enrollment Management, Marketing, and Academic Affairs.  The DBA Program Director ensures program vitality and academic quality by balancing administrative and academic functions that support a rigorous approach to teaching and learning that meets student learning goals. As a visible leader within the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs, the Program Director supports, respects, and advances the mission of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota as a Lasallian Catholic institution.

 

The Doctor of Business Administration Program Director is accountable for overall program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, and professional development of faculty and university service activities.

 

Program Administration

Works with the Dean of the School of Business and stakeholders from across the university to:

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Enrollment Management to facilitate the development of a multi-year marketing and visibility campaign, ensuring alignment of messaging tied to program outcomes.
  • Establish and monitor annual enrollment goals.
  • Interview (and oversee faculty as they interview) prospective doctoral students in the admissions process.
  • Establish a course schedule that supports students’ progression through coursework, comprehensive examinations, and completion of the dissertation.
  • Enforce academic policies as documented in the Catalog and Student Handbook.
  • Maintain strong internal and external relationships, and contribute to community development for the purpose of recruiting students and faculty.
  • Support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
  • Forecast enrollment, income, and expenses; create multi-year budgets, and monitor program fiscal performance and reporting.
  • Ensure that all expenses are processed in an accurate, timely, and prudent manner.
  • At the request of the Dean, provide support, data, and content for university reports and public presentations.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop departmental faculty and program staff.

 

Student Support

  • Advise students on their professional goals, academic progression, and research progression.
  • Oversee the summative activities of the doctoral program which may include comprehensive examinations, proposal defenses, dissertation defenses or other related activities.

 

Work with Student Central to

  • Ensure prompt registration of accepted students.
  • Ensure that all students have a comprehensive orientation to the program.
  • Monitor academic status of students (probation, leaves, retention, degree completion).

 

Faculty Leadership

Work with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology and other university stakeholders to:

  • Recruit, hire, and maintain a roster of exceptionally qualified faculty using a variety of sources.
  • Work with academic leadership to orient faculty to the program and university processes and mission to encourage and require consistent faculty development.
  • Conduct regular faculty meetings to promote consistency of curriculum implementation and sharing of best practices.
  • Provide ongoing support and academic leadership to faculty.
  • Evaluate faculty performance by reviewing instructor or course evaluations, observing classes, and monitoring professional and scholarly productivity.

 

Curriculum Leadership

Work with the Dean of the School of Business and Technology and other university stakeholders to:

  • Create, update, and maintain a rigorous curriculum and coursework that reflects research and professional practice in the discipline.
  • Ensure that faculty are teaching from approved syllabi and using updated technology, along with the university learning management system, Canvas.
  • Monitor the development and approval of all syllabi for all courses.
  • Conduct program reviews and course observation at least every three years.
  • Maintain curricular relevance through ongoing connections within the discipline/industry.
  • Implement ongoing assessment of student learning activities.

 

Role as Faculty

Serves as a key member of the doctoral faculty to:

  • Teach (credit amount determined at appointment and hire).
  • Serve as research advisor to dissertation research and through dissertation committee membership.
  • Maintain and enhance disciplinary expertise and scholarship.
  • Produce appropriate academic and professional practice output.
  • Actively engage in appropriate university supported professional memberships, conferences, and seminars as determined in collaboration and by the Dean of the School of Business and Technology.

 

Professional Development and University Service

  • Support and advance the University’s Lasallian Catholic mission and charism.
  • Contribute to the governance and committee structure of the university.
  • Participate in university and school celebrations (commencements, convocations, campus events).
  • Maintain university sponsored professional memberships, network with other professionals, attend conferences/training, and continue professional development to keep current on developments in business and business education.

 

Performs other duties, as assigned.

  • Academic and professional expertise in statistics, finance or economics.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with adult learners, faculty and other professionals in academic settings and with community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the profession through service to professional associations, governing boards, or accrediting bodies.
  • Understanding of appropriate adult learning pedagogy in multiple delivery modalities including residential, blended, and online.
  • Evidence of ethical decision-making skills.
  • Creation/maintenance of a collegial spirit among students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Effective interpersonal and supervisory skills in recruitment, performance management, and coaching/counseling.
  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in a business or related discipline is required.
  • At least five years of leadership experience in the discipline’s profession.
  • Evidence of academic and professional practice production as a scholar.
  • Experience in higher education which includes teaching, program development, and/or administration.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.
