Job Description


The Email Marketing Specialist will be required to oversee email marketing campaigns, including content creation, sending/monitoring, market research, ongoing performance monitoring and improvement. He/she will also be required to collaborate with coworkers across departments to ensure a detailed understanding of stakeholder business requirements and goals. 

A successful Email Marketing Specialist should demonstrate the ability to create accessible, engaging, and memorable messages. He/she will remain abreast of technological developments that facilitate the dissemination and monitoring of campaign features.


  • Oversee and manage email lists and segments
  • Create series of email communications across departments
  • Build compelling email journeys, intended to engage readers, based on milestones
  • Combine website analytics, social media content, and content marketing to create emails and email journeys that are fully aligned with broader content marketing efforts
  • Stay on top of important events and create email communications in a timely manner to increase visibility of events and to send post-events communications
  • Conceptualize marketing campaigns that speak directly to the pain points of existing and prospective clients
  • Ensure all brand standards are met for design and copy of email
  • Ensure email marketing best practices are used for subject line attributes, pre-header text attributes, “to” and “from” labels, email text layout (body, headers, sizing, etc.), CTA buttons, personalization, unsubscribe options, footer text, alternate text, link usage, image sizing, send times and scheduling
  • Review our former campaigns to ascertain areas of strength and weakness, which could inform subsequent outputs
  • Create well-written copy that is free from mistakes
  • Work with proofreaders and managers on email approvals
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to improve the appearance and layout of outputs
  • Distribute emails through the use of automation software
  • Use conditional content features of email software to create if-then scenarios and customize emails according to user data
  • Work with stakeholders across departments to develop a deep understanding of their audiences and needs
  • Provide ongoing updates and communication to departments regarding campaign performance
  • Set up and manage all conversion tracking
  • Analyze campaign performance, report results, and work to continuously improve the Marketing Department as it represents Ave Maria University

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in marketing management, advertising, communications, or similar (preferred)

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years of experience working with email marketing platforms, such as Hubspot, MailChimp, Active Campaign, Customer.io, etc.

  • Proven experience creating high-impact, unique marketing campaigns
  • Prior database management experience, preferably in a similar role



  • Thorough understanding of email marketing best practices and ongoing research of trends and updates
  • Proficiency in marketing automation technology
  • Familiarity with analytical and database tools
  • Love for data-driven marketing
  • Exceptional copywriting and copy editing skills
  • Excellent eye for design
  • Familiarity with pertinent automation and performance evaluation software
  • Excellent project management skills specific to marketing
  • Ability to listen to and work with stakeholders to convert their business requirements to high-performing email communications
  • Strong ability to think creatively and strategically to identify and resolve problems effectively
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards, and requires seated, standing, and movement work.
