Job Description

St Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish in Toledo, Ohio, is a welcoming, Christ-centered community. Inspired by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Sacraments, we are committed to developing spiritual growth, sharing vibrant faith, and encouraging total parish involvement.  The Director of Music and Liturgy reports directly to the pastor in actively leading the music ministry program as well as actively engaged in leading the worship life of the parish. This role requires the ability to work in a Catholic environment of kindness, compassion, respect, integrity, mutual charity, and dignity. The Director of Music and Liturgy must reflect the core values of the Catholic Church and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish. Salary is commensurate with education/experience.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Music or a related field required with a strong knowledge and love of Catholic worship and liturgy.

  • The candidate must be open to directing a faith-based choir in the parish.

  • A strong proficiency and experience in playing the piano at a professional level and proficient in conducting and in singing. The ability to play the organ, guitar and conduct a handbell choir is a plus.

  • The candidate must be a practicing Catholic deeply rooted in their faith.

Musical Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for arranging music at most liturgical functions at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish.

  • Pianist/Organist/Vocalist, Song leader for all funerals and weddings or arrange for a competent substitute.

  • Involved in preparation of parish weddings and funerals with parish families as needed.

Liturgical Responsibilities:

  • Organize, coordinate, provide education, and attend the Parish Liturgy meetings. Prepare annual calendar of liturgical services in collaboration with other parish staff and submit for the approval of the pastor.

  • Coordinate school liturgies (with teachers) and provide music for same. 

  • Make sure all general liturgical items (song boards, announcements, intercessions, etc.) are in place for all weekend, holy days, and special liturgies.

Other Responsibilities & Miscellaneous:

  • Provides a visible, accessible presence at parish events.

  • Experience with livestreaming software and software such as PowerPoint and ProPresenter.

  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.

  • Must be flexible with their work schedule, especially on Holy Days and for special events.

  • VIRTUS and BCI certification required.
