Job Description

The Thomistic Institute has experienced rapid growth in the reach of its digital offerings (recorded lectures, podcast, YouTube) over the past two years, coupled with a significant expansion of its email list. We are now looking to hire a Digital Marketing Manager who will be charged with principal responsibility for developing the Thomistic Institute’s marketing strategy, promoting TI events and digital programs (like Aquinas 101), and supporting and collaborating with the TI’s event planning and fundraising staff.

The Digital Marketing Manager works full-time and in-person at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. 

The position’s responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing the Thomistic Institute’s marketing strategy. 

    • A key task will be developing new strategies and techniques for deploying the TI’s automated email marketing software (Pardot) as it integrates with our website and our Salesforce database, and serving as the lead TI team member for Pardot and other marketing platforms. 

  • Managing and overseeing all Thomistic Institute marketing activity, including:  

    • the promotion of Thomistic Institute digital content (Aquinas 101 and other YouTube programming, recorded lectures, podcasts), and

    • the promotion of Thomistic Institute events and conferences.

This includes working with other TI staff to devise engagement strategies for the TI’s various audiences, managing the organization’s communications calendar, preparing advertising materials for events and digital content, generating marketing emails,  collaborating with staff on meeting their outreach goals, and coaching staff on best practices.

  • Overseeing the Thomistic Institute’s social media accounts and digital advertising. While most social media posting is handled by an external contractor, the Digital Marketing Manager oversees the external contractor’s work, and develops strategies to increase the TI’s reach on these platforms.

  • Managing the Thomistic Institute’s branding and its websites.

  • Supporting and collaborating with our Lead Development Officer to produce the Thomistic Institute’s annual report, generating marketing materials for current and potential benefactors, and supervising the production of newsletters and other publications as needed.

  • Coordinating the filming (and subsequent posting on YouTube) of select Thomistic Institute lectures and events.

  • Managing outside contractors and vendors related to marketing projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least a B.A. degree or its equivalent; 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills;

  • Knowledge of the Catholic intellectual tradition and motivation to spread the faith by intellectual evangelization;

  • Familiarity with Adobe design programs, Excel, Pardot (or equivalent automated marketing software), and Salesforce are a plus.

The best candidate will be trustworthy; is ready to take initiative and to work independently; has good judgment; is self-motivated, hard-working, and able to work without constant supervision; has strong organizational abilities and exhibits careful attention to detail. The candidate should be strongly motivated by the Thomistic Institute’s mission to bring the truth of the Catholic intellectual tradition to secular university campuses and the wider public square, and to deepen engagement in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas in the contemporary academy. 

As part of the position, the Digital Marketing Manager will be entitled to take one course (for-credit or audit, free of charge) per semester at the Dominican House of Studies (e.g., M.A. level classes in philosophy or theology), during office hours.  

All members of the TI team are encouraged to participate in the regular liturgical life of the Dominican friars (e.g., step away from work for Mass, the daily midday rosary, the divine office, etc.).

The Thomistic Institute is a research institute of the Pontifical Faculty of the Dominican House of Studies and an apostolate of the Dominican friars of the Province of St. Joseph.  The person holding this position will represent the TI and the Dominican friars in public, will bear witness to and teach the Catholic faith, and will at times participate in (and even lead others in) Catholic prayers. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing who assent to and profess the Catholic faith in its entirety as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Salary:        Commensurate with experience

Two weeks of paid vacation; in addition, TI employees receive paid leave for most public holidays and Catholic Solemnities (e.g., the Triduum, St. Joseph’s Day, Immaculate Conception), plus from Dec. 21-Jan. 2 for the Christmas/New Year’s holiday.
