 Typical Schedule:  This is a full-time staff position M-F with expected additional nights and weekends to accommodate programming and events throughout the semesters.

 Purpose: The Director of Campus Ministry is responsible for organizing a program of religious and spiritual outreach to the college community.  The Director articulates for the college administration the spiritual and religious needs of the community.  The Director assists the community to formulate a response to those needs, which is collaborative, and open to all departments on campus (both inside and outside of the classroom).  All ministry programming will strive to call forth the community into active dialogue with the mission statement thus aiding in education of the mind and heart.

Essential Job Duties:

All administrators, faculty and staff are called to assist students in their formation to be Christ-like students and thus must embrace and advance the Holy Cross mission of the College in all professional activities.

  •  Provide opportunities for community members, especially resident students and commuters, to come together in an organized program of prayer, liturgy, and sacraments.  This includes providing students the opportunity for engagement in Confirmation and R.C.I.A. programs.
  •   Promote visibility of the Office of Campus Ministry and its programs to the student body by personal availability and visibility to those seeking spiritual consolation, counseling or advice related to their role as Christians.
  •   Identify and coordinate the talents of others interested in active Christian ministry including faculty, staff or students (peer ministry).
  •   Organize opportunities for Christian prayer and reflection including retreat opportunities.
  •   Establish networks and communication with other local ministry programs including those at Saint Mary's College, the University of Notre Dame and the Diocese of Fort Wayne / South Bend.
  •   Draft, administer and efficiently manage an annual budget for the Office of Campus Ministry.
  •   Responsible for the development and communication of a strategic direction for the department of Campus Ministry.
  •   Facilitate ongoing integration of the spiritual development of students with their intellectual, physical, and social development.

 The Following programs are under the leadership and oversight of the Director:

 1. Spes Unica Retreats (1 per semester)

2. Sunday and Weekday Mass Liturgical Planning

3. Eucharistic Adoration

4. General Saint/Feast Days

5. Interdepartmental Events

6. Mission Team Faith Community

7. RCIA and Sacramental Prep

8. Coordinate Saints for Life and Saint Vincent DePaul Clubs

9. Sophomore Anchor Day Experience

10.  Fall, spring, and summer break pilgrimage/service experiences

11.  Summer program coordination; Saints & Scholars, Cross & Anchor

 Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:

  • Master of Divinity or related Master’s degree with equivalent job experience in campus ministry
  • Must be committed, practicing Catholic
  • Must possess understanding of the Church’s formal teachings, e.g. through some form of theological training
  • Ability to demonstrate an openness and tolerance of other beliefs
  • Ability to exercise patience and understanding with those currently rejecting a Christian response while holding out to them a positive message of hope and welcome.
  • Must possess a visibly, strong sense of personal ministry, prayerfulness, and spirituality 
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to be cognizant of and responsive to the needs of others
  • Experience in pastoral counseling preferred
  • Skilled in team formation
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptive, and always open to a growing and expanding role for Christian ministry.
