Position: Café Manager – Tolle Lege Café 

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime pay)

Schedule: This full-time position will work from the Augustine Institute home office in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

Pay Range: $50,000 - $62,000* annually

Reporting to: Director of Environment and Experience

Position Summary

Tolle Lege Coffeehouse and Bookstore, locally owned and operated, has been the hub of the Augustine Institute community for over a decade. Our emphasis is on quality products: artisan coffee, a locally sourced menu, and a curated retail bookshop. The recently renovated Tolle Lege Cafe is looking for an experienced professional who thrives on the fast pace of a retail café, loves to create quality coffee drinks, and offers a welcoming environment. 
 
This essential role will have full oversight and management of all aspects of cafe operations including, but not limited to, hiring and coaching FT and PT baristas to uphold consistency and integrity, cleaning and maintaining a healthy facility within parameters set by the health department and legal jurisdictions, maintaining equipment and beverage quality standards, managing inventory, ordering vendor goods, and providing the highest level of customer service to our loyal customers. Overall ensuring the standards of excellence are met.

Key Responsibilities

The Café Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Tolle Lege Café, guiding the performance of each barista, and supervising the overall food service operations. Additional responsibilities are as follows:

  • Deliver excellent hospitality to every person that walks through our doors.
  • Assess and manage cafe operations for efficiency and quality, adjusting as needed
  • Participate in regular café budgeting process as needed
  • Operate within the budget and identify new ways to improve business
  • Oversee barista staff to ensure customers are offered the best service and experience possible
  • Hire, supervise, train, and coach barista staff. Assist staff in growing their skills while communicating job expectations and enforcing policies and procedures 
  • Create barista staff schedules on a timely basis and ensure all shifts and events are properly covered
  • Communicate issues effectively and in a timely manner with barista, and supervisor, if needed
  • Collaborate with outside caterers during special events
  • Maintain inventory of all sellable products, coordinate orders with vendors and/or warehouse, keep sound records of orders and deliveries.
  • Create and implement opening/closing checklists to be logged daily by the barista staff to ensure a well-run, clean cafe at all times
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and in good working order with regular maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with proper sanitation and cleaning standards per the health and legal regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have management experience, strong customer service skills, and an enthusiastic and positive demeanor. Additional qualifications are as follows:

  • 3 years of management experience in a retail, restaurant, or cafe environment
  • Available to work a five-day set schedule

  • Strong leadership skills and experience mentoring a team
  • Detail-oriented, growth-minded, and a self-starter
  • Adaptable to new processes and systems
  • Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions
  • Operational knowledge of cash handling procedures and food service equipment
  • Proficient computer skills including Square POS and MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy, and enjoy a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, typing and use of office equipment, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Work Environment

This position will work onsite in the Augustine Institute Tolle Lege Cafe in Greenwood Village, Colorado. 

  • The employee will typically work in a climate-controlled cafe setting, with occasional outdoor events/service.
  • This is a practical, hands-on role, with much of the working hours spent in the coffee bar, back-of-house, and service area making coffee drinks and preparing and serving food
  • Must be physically capable of standing for long hours on your feet.
  • The employee will regularly be required to perform kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, typing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).

Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
