POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller will have and/or develop expertise in the financial and regulatory reporting requirements of the University, including its related LLC’s and Austrian operations. With an emphasis in debt, lease and fixed asset accounting, the Assistant Controller will work closely with the rest of the Admin Accounting team to ensure financial statement presentation consistent with external audit needs, as well as internal budgetary and operational analysis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Debt service accounting and compliance.
· Accounting for leases.
· Fixed asset accounting, including management of Building Fund for new construction, renewal and replacement expenditures, capital project budgeting and reporting, construction in progress and depreciation. Also coordinates fixed asset appraisals as required for insurance purposes.
· Manage bank accounts, cash flows and all accounting records for all LLC organizations.
· Assist in the monthly financial close and financial statement preparation as well as the annual financial statement audit, including footnote disclosures. Includes reconciliation of restricted, endowment and plant funds, as well as net asset classification.
· Work with the team on federal financial aid and Single Audit to ensure reconciliation between University accounting records and audit results.
· Handle accounting and budgeting facets for Austrian Programs, including cash flows, currency purchases and exchanges.
· Works closely with team to ensure consistent treatment of transactions between accounting and budgeting.
· Assist with preparation and execution of annual Form 990 and 990-T.
· Other governmental, regulatory and reporting compliance as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
Must understand, support and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following:
Technical Skills
· Fund accounting experience, with related accounting expertise specifically related to the job duties as listed above.
· High level of demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel, financial statement analysis and accounting systems.
Non-Technical Skills and Competencies
· Process analysis and creation – continually question current practices for necessity and efficiency
· Consensus building and execution – work amongst a small team to find workable solutions
· Sense of urgency – commitment to meeting deadlines and driving transformation
Education and Experience
· 5-7 years of higher education or non-profit accounting experience in an Accounting Manager or similar detail accounting position.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or related field.
· Experience making mistakes, fixing them, and then establishing processes to prevent them from happening again.
