The Director of Liturgy and Music should be an active disciple of Jesus Christ; able to share his/her faith and love of the Lord with our parish. The Director should understand the opportunities and challenges of evangelizing in today’s culture. The Director of Liturgy and Music is a full-time, twelve-month position which includes some nights and most weekends. Candidate must be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Church.
Summary and Basic Objective
The director is to encourage full, active, and conscious participation of the faithful in parish liturgies. The director recruits, trains and supports the liturgical volunteers and ministers in their respective roles.
Member of Parish Staff
1. Be an active part of the parish team and be on “the same page”.
2. Participate in all staff and other key parish meetings.
Requirements of our Director of Liturgy and Music
Liturgical Responsibilities
2. Prepare yearly liturgical calendars in coordination with parish staff and ministries.
2. Prepare the weekly liturgy.
2. Serve as a resource person for the coordinators of the various liturgical ministries.
Musical Responsibilities
1. Serve as principal accompanist at weekend Masses, holy days of obligation, funerals, and weddings.
2. Develop and form various parish choirs and groups.
Professional Qualifications
1. A significant ability to form relationships with parishioners and staff members.
2. BA in Theology or Religious Studies, or BA in Music/Performance.
3. Ability to play piano and/or organ. Playing the guitar is a plus.
4. Ability to sing and cantor.
3. Some parish experience in liturgy and music required.
