Job Description
The Managing Editor, Content Team, will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of OSV periodicals and websites, including Our Sunday Visitor, The Deacon, and The Priest, with a focus on print and digital content. This position will be a critical part of a collaborative, creative team that seeks to provide the very best in Catholic commentary to evangelize, form, and inform in both print and digital media.
The Managing Editor will solicit, review, and edit content for OSV’s consumer products according to OSV’s publication style and editorial guidelines. Working with the editors of the periodicals and websites, the Managing Editor will offer suggestions and comments to improve the content.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
- Drive the editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality content that aligns with company objectives and is delivered on deadline
- Identify emerging trends, topics, and opportunities in the Catholic Church to inform content strategy
- Manage process of Our Sunday Visitor and content on OurSundayVisitor.com
- Manage process of the monthly The Priest magazine and the bimonthly The Deacon magazine, including leading content and design meetings
- Work closely with Digital Content Coordinator and Design team to develop fresh, creative, and innovative digital and print containers for OSV content
- Assist respective editors in the planning of editorial content for both print and digital media
- Supervise and coordinate freelance writers and correspondents
- Copyedit and proofread content in conjunction with Associate Editors
- Oversee relationships with authors and approve payments
- Monitor digital content performance metrics, analyze audience engagement, and use insights to refine content strategies
- Identify opportunities for content improvement and growth based on data-driven insights
- Accomplish all other tasks or duties as assigned
Requirements:
Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in Catholic communications
- Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church
- Preferred experience in writing and editing for a national publication
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent Liberal Arts field
- Coursework in theology preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in areas of print and digital publication
- High competency in copyediting, proofreading, writing, and story development
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills to manage projects simultaneously
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong understanding of Catholic Church teachings and practices
- Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
- Willingness and interest in working as part of a creative, collaborative team
Working Environment:
- Depending on the candidate, hybrid and fully remote work is a possibility
- Must be able to sit for the majority of their shift
- May be required to travel a few times a year

Fr. Noll founded Our Sunday Visitor with three primary purposes in mind: to form Catholics in the faith, to inform Catholics and about events in the Church and society, and to defend the faith from ignorance and prejudice. Our corporate mission is "To Serve the Church."
The Our Sunday Visitor Institute is funded by income from Our Sunday Visitor operations. The purpose of the Institute is to provide support to Catholic organizations for projects or programs that focus on catechesis, evangelization, vocations and stewardship.

At Our Sunday Visitor we care for each other. The company offers a full benefits package for employees which includes a 401k plan and company matching funds. We have a health clinic onsite in Huntington. The clinic provides basic healthcare services and medications free of charge to employees.
Our Sunday Visitor supports employee education in several ways. With approval from supervisors, we support costs associated with continuing professional education, seminars and events. Serving Our Community
We care about supporting the local community and national organizations. Our Sunday Visitor personnel donate their time to charities, churches, schools and many other organizations across the United States. We also make financial contributions that are unrelated to the OSV Institute.
As part of our commitment to health and well-being, Our Sunday Visitor provided significant assistance to build a new YMCA in Huntington, IN. The company supports charities, schools and community organizations locally and nationally, and is consistently a United Way pacesetter. We match employee donations in addition to corporate contributions.
Stewarding Resources and Sustaining the Environment
Our Sunday Visitor encourages awareness about our resources and environment throughout our organizations and processes. Many of our products employ paper, which is a renewable resource in itself. All scrap from production is captured, baled and recycled. And to balance out our use of paper, Our Sunday Visitor frequently donates trees to be planted.
In addition to using industry certified paper in our products, we also use water-based environmentally friendly inks in our production process. All of our materials have been reviewed and changed to be environmentally friendly while maintaining the quality our customers desire.
Our journey for sustainable resources is continuous. We have removed paper and substituted air hand dryers throughout the facility to reduce use of paper in the office. Our lighting has been changed to energy efficient lighting. Every office recycles appropriate materials.
Furthermore, we employ LEAN principles throughout our office and production processes. Through LEAN we focus on eliminating waste from processes for everything from closing our books to converting envelopes. As a result we are saving wasted time, steps, energy and materials, and we work on this every day as part of our normal operations.
