Position Summary:

Support the continued development and implementation of the Pastoral Migratoria ® (PM)

immigrant-led ministry in Hispanic parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Design, coordinate and implement ongoing formation and leadership training for immigrant lay leaders of this ministry. Build and sustain partnerships and community engagement with local parishes, community organizations, civic and educational institutions, etc. to achieve the mission and goals of Pastoral Migratoria, specifically in relation to leadership formation and empowerment for service, justice and accompaniment actions. Support the development and revitalization of this ministry at archdiocesan and parish levels.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement PM’s pastoral formation and leadership training activities in Hispanic parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Utilize a process of reflection and dialogue rooted in the Aparecida* methodology (e.g. listen-learn-proclaim).
  • Develop and support ongoing formation activities for PM lay leaders. Incorporate leading practices to maintain PM’s integrity as a Catholic faith-based ministry with a praxis of pastoral accompaniment.
  • Support the design and implementation of PM’s pastoral service and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with internal and external partners, including but not limited to the bi-monthly forums, Keep Hope Alive, National Immigration Week, Posada, National Pastoral Migratoria Institute, etc.
  • Develop and sustain relationships that engage partners and stakeholders in this ministry. Foster and coordinate collaborative program opportunities. Recruit new partners and collaborators.
  • Work closely with PM’s Leadership Support Coordinator and Pastoral Companions to organize PM activities and engage the parish community.
  • Support education and advocacy strategies, activities, and resources for PM leaders to respond to parish community needs.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of program evaluation. Facilitate the collection of data and feedback from PM leaders and partners towards continuous improvement.  
  • Support the development of strategic communications including but not limited to collecting content, calendaring, gathering and sharing testimonials, e-newsletters, engaging stakeholders on social media, etc.
  • Support the development of a library of community information and resources for parishes,.
  • Collaborate and support the formation and ongoing leadership of National Pastoral Migratoria  initiative and Archdiocesan Polish Immigrant-to-Immigrant Ministry.
  • Support fundraising and other efforts as requested.

Qualifications

Education

Preferred

Bachelor of Theology or better.

Experience

Required

Must demonstrate understanding, familiarity of, and support for, Catholic social teaching and the Church’s values and evangelization mission
Fully bilingual (Spanish/English) with excellent oral/written communication skills
3-5 years work experience in pastoral formation training and coordinating partnerships, preferably in a pastoral or social ministry context
Understanding of and familiarity with ministry, pastoral formation, and leadership development
Knowledge of immigration issues and legislation; committed to social justice and social action
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and facilitate strong relationships with pastors, external partners and immigrants
Excellent planning, program and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Familiarity and facility with mainstream social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube), videoconferencing, and online training platforms
Ability to multi-task and adapt to sudden changes/challenges
