Job Description

The GIVEN Institute (“GIVEN”) is a not-for-profit organization located in Washington, D.C. dedicated to activating the gifts of young adult women for the Catholic Church and the world. GIVEN’s mission is to inspire and equip the next generation of female leaders to “receive the gift that they are; realize the gifts they have been given; and respond with the gift that only they can give.” Through leadership training, faith formation, and dedicated mentoring, GIVEN helps form women for mission and for life.

GIVEN’s Executive Director oversees and leads all aspects of the organization, including the ongoing development and execution of GIVEN’s strategic plan, fundraising, marketing, and program execution. The Executive Director serves as GIVEN’s chief spokesperson, leading efforts to build the organization's exposure among key stakeholders, including Church leaders, University chaplains, prominent Catholic lay leaders in various fields, and donors. The Executive Director reports to an independent, active Board of Directors. The Board is seeking a leader who is committed to GIVEN’s mission and possesses an entrepreneurial instinct. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities of the Executive Director include the following:

  • Strategic planning and implementation
  • Planning and operation of annual budget
  • In collaboration with the Board, developing and executing GIVEN’s short and long-term fundraising strategy including (i) overseeing grant application processes and proposals, (ii) maintaining and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and current and prospective donors, (iii) researching new grant possibilities, and (iv) communicating regularly with stakeholders, donors, and foundations (some travel required)
  • Establishing policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operations
  • Overseeing marketing and other communications efforts and serving as primary spokesperson
  • Reporting to and working closely with the Board to seek their involvement in decisions, fundraising and increasing overall visibility
  • Supervising and collaborating with staff
  • Overseeing organization of Board and committee meetings
  • Renewing and approving contracts for services
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Non-profit or for-profit management experience
  • Hands-on budget management skills
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey a vision of GIVEN’s future to staff, Board, volunteers and donors
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to non-profit sectors
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate Board members and other volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to interact with and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability

Additional Requirements: Must be a practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Church, and a person of prayer who is committed to the Catholic faith.
