The Opportunity

The Angeletti Group invites nominations and applications for the position of Director for Advancement at Maria Regina High School (MRHS). The school seeks an engaging, inspirational, and entrepreneurial leader to bolster its philanthropic support from various constituencies and strengthen the engagement of its alumnae and parent populations. The Director will report directly to the President. She/he will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising and engagement for the school.

Maria Regina High School is located in Hartsdale, New York, 20 miles north of Manhattan and served by Metro-North’s Harlem Line to Grand Central Terminal. This charming hamlet, which lies along the Bronx River, is home to one of the few working farms in lower Westchester and has several picturesque parks that host an array of walking trails.

Maria Regina High School is an all-female Catholic, college preparatory school (grades 9 to 12), with an enrollment of 500 pupils.

MRHS was founded in 1957 by the Sisters of the Resurrection as the first Archdiocesan girls’ high school in Westchester County. Since its beginning, Maria Regina has been committed to fostering academic excellence, inspiring spiritual development, and instilling a genuine sense of responsibility to the “greater good,” both across the community and beyond. The entire school program, whether it be the curriculum or the extra-curricular activities, is designed to challenge students to develop their intellectual potential, nurture their physical abilities, and strengthen their social skills.

The school is accredited by the Board of Regents of the State of New York and offers Advanced Placement, college credit, and honors courses.

It is the school’s mission to empower the students of Maria Regina to grow from young girls into women who have the skills and capacities to be faith-filled and exemplary leaders.

The Director of Advancement for Maria Regina High School

The Director for Advancement will first and foremost be an advancement professional of exceptional skill, impeccable ethics, and extraordinary experience. The candidate must have a keen appreciation of the values and traditions of Catholic doctrine and moral teachings. The Director of Advancement will be responsible for all of the school’s advancement and fundraising activities. Reporting to the President of Maria Regina High School, the Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including, but not limited to: (1) annual giving; (2) major and planned giving; (3) corporate and foundation giving; (4) special fundraising events; (5) donor relations; (6) all special fundraising campaigns; and (7) alumnae engagement. Leadership and management of the advancement staff are important components of the position, as is the ability to be an active community member who will personally cultivate and solicit a portfolio of major gift prospects.

Areas of Emphasis for the Director of Advancement

The Director of Advancement for Maria Regina High School is directly responsible for increasing philanthropic support of MRHS, as well as identifying and implementing new and exciting ways to engage alumnae and parents with the school. Specifically, the Director will:

  • Lead all advancement activities and organize a comprehensive fundraising program.
  • Create a comprehensive Advancement Plan to be reviewed by the President and Board of Trustees annually.
  • Set annual fundraising goals for the Fund for Maria Regina, Legacy Scholarships, and Parents’ Association and Alumnae Association events.
  • Oversee strategies for the Fund for Maria Regina, major and planned giving prospects, capital projects, and corporate/foundation grants.
  • Work in collaboration with the Alumnae Association and Parents’ Association to ensure their fundraising efforts align with those of the school.
  • Work closely with the President to build and engage a major gift prospect pool; identify strategies and opportunities to align prospects with various school priorities.
  • Maintain a proactive, creative leadership role in cultivating and stewarding top donors.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of current and prospective alumnae and parent donors; create strategic action plans for top prospects with the intent of deepening relationships on behalf of the school, leading to increased comprehensive giving, including annual, capital, and deferred gifts.
  • Support and collaborate with members of the Board of Trustees and relevant board committees; assist in development and implementation of strategic planning. Work with President to establish board expectations as related to philanthropy.
  • Interact with administrators, department chairs, and faculty and advancement staff to consult on school needs; formulate proposal strategies and identify high- level donors.
  • Provide direction to the Advancement Office staff including performance reviews and the annual review of their job descriptions.

Qualifications & Preferences

  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of development experience with progressive responsibility in development leadership, including work in all functional areas of development.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with campaigns.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful frontline fundraising for a high school or other not-for-profit organization, ideally experience in a Catholic organization.
  • Experience in major gift fundraising, management and meeting financial goals.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising databases; Raiser’s Edge experience a plus.
  • A self-confident, extroverted style that can enliven, engage, and positively impact individuals and groups.
  • Exceptional planning skills, goal driven, and detail-oriented; ability to set and meet deadlines. Able to construct, articulate, and implement written annual development and communication/marketing plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Willingness to travel as needed; some work nights and weekends required.
