Job Description

Job Title: Cemetery Salesperson

Reports to: Karen Imbach, Director of Parish Stewardship

Expected Start Date: July 1st, 2019

Role Purpose

We are seeking a creative, hardworking, personable, and driven salesperson to join our team at St Teresa of Avila Cemetery & Mausoleum. This position will be responsible for presenting the parish cemetery and mausoleum in a professional, and hospitable manner. The candidate will take initiative in selling mausoleum crypts and niches and inventory by providing top-level hospitality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaison to funeral directors and the public in the arrangement of funeral and burial matters such as sales, burial arrangements and including location and marker placement.
  • Develop marketing plans for cemetery and mausoleum services through advertisements, attendance at professional meetings, and contacts with local mortuaries and retirement communities.
  • Answer a variety of inquiries made by telephone or in person regarding cemetery and mausoleum services including the resolution of difficult and sensitive complaints or problems.
  • Show spaces for the purpose of sales.
  • Collect money, issue receipts and maintain all cemetery records.
  • Locate boundaries, oversee the burial process and coordinate the installation of markers.
  • Enforce cemetery policies.
  • Compile statistical and financial data for reports; collect and analyze data.
  • Maintain both written and electronic burial records.
  • Update database to HMIS, keep records current and work closely with the Cemeteries Office of the Archdiocese for all updates.
  • Review forms and other administrative methods to improve procedures and operations.
  • Assume the duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Bachelor’s degree or more a plus
  • Understanding of Roman Catholicism, a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must receive a Protecting God’s Children certificate
  • At least 2 years experience in the cemetery and mausoleum industry
