Cristo Rey Columbus High School (CRCHS) is a Catholic, co-ed, college-prep school that is part of the national Cristo Rey Network. We serve a diverse group of students of all faiths who do not have the educational opportunity or financial means to attend another private, college-prep school. Our vision is that our students will graduate from college and become leaders in the public and private sector, service organizations, their own faith institutions, and the community at large, transforming the world for the good. Our students work in an innovative Professional Work Study Program and assign their earnings to the school in lieu of tuition. CRCHS students work one day a week during the school year in office jobs at over 130 professional organizations in the Columbus metropolitan area to cover about half the cost of their education




The Director of Advancement is the chief development officer of Cristo Rey Columbus High School. Working with the President, she or he directs and coordinates the efforts of fundraising and the day-to-day operations of the school’s Advancement office in keeping with the mission of the school. This person is responsible for developing and implementing all donation strategies and programs, marketing, and community outreach. The Director of Advancement serves as a member of the school’s Leadership Team. 


Given the unique combination of qualifications needed for success, there are several requisite skills required for this position, including a bachelor’s degree or higher, previous experience in institutional advancement activities, business, or school leadership, or ideally a combination of the three.  The Director must be able to adapt to changing responsibilities and maintain absolute confidentiality.  Collaboration is a key.

  1. Develops an annual strategic fundraising and communications plan in conjunction with the President.
  2. Makes recommendations to the President for the hiring and evaluation of department staff. Responsible for the general moral and supervision of all departmental staff, providing a quality work environment through teaming principles, mutual support and effective leadership.
  3. Works closely with the President, ensures consistent and clear communication regarding fundraising with the public through a periodic newsletter, all mailings and events. Assists the President in communicating with the media.
  4. Responsible for overall communication with the public in regard to fundraising, day-to-day supervision of the Advancement Office, and direction of the school’s annual giving and fundraising campaigns.
  5. Collaborates with the President and consultants on all fundraising and public relations efforts, following through on and contributing to the development of the overall plan.
  6. Meets regularly with the President and the chair of the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees to help set the committee’s meeting agenda and to coordinate the fundraising efforts of each member of the Board of Trustees.
  7. Develops a strategic marketing plan that includes an annual report, Christmas cards, formal and informal thank you letters, the school website and social media; assists with development of marketing materials for student recruitment and Professional Work Study Program.
  8. Creates a donor cultivation plan that includes identifying, cultivating, involving, acknowledging and continued cultivation.
  9. Coordinates visits and meetings between the President and potential major gift donors.
  10. Prepares written and oral reports for the President, Development Committee and Board of Trustees.
  11. Manages the grant application process, fosters and maintains strong relationships with the foundation community, and ensures that grant applications are of the highest quality and timely.
  12. Facilitates events, dinners, luncheons, breakfasts, and tours which bring together potential donors with the President, students, staff and Board members (when appropriate).
  13. Communicates the mission, philosophy and programs of Cristo Rey Columbus High School to potential donors, foundations and the general community. Represents the school at civic, religious and other public functions as requested.
  14. Proposes and oversees budget for Advancement Department activities and operations.
  15. Oversees management of donor database and IRS compatibility.
  16. Engages and works closely with volunteers who support the school’s mission.
  17. Attends and participates in Cristo Rey Network programs for Advancement Directors or other programs or meetings as directed by the President.
  18. Networks with other Cristo Rey Network Advancement Directors.
  19. Participates in telephone conferences of the Cristo Rey Network.
  20. Assists the President with various projects as requested.
  21. Work beyond a typical 40-hour work week is often expected and required.
  22. Responds to communications and requests from President on a timely basis.
  23. Complies with federal, state and local laws.
