About the role: Global Catholic Climate Movement is searching for an Assistant Director of Communications to develop communications strategy and manage its day-to-day execution.

This position will play a leading role in developing a communications strategy and seeing its day-to-day execution come to life. From helping manage our calendar to refining our digital media results to contributing to a new style guide, the work of this position will be central to GCCM’s development in the next few years and beyond.
This is a new position that joins a growing team, located largely in Latin America. The assistant director reports to the director of communications and manages a team of five full-time staffers, two part-time staffers, and three translators. The assistant director will also collaborate with GCCM staffers beyond the communications team, including those located in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

Areas of responsibility The Assistant Director of Communications’ key duties are as follow.
Manage projects in a complex, fast-moving environment:
work with the communications team, other GCCM teams, and external partners to create a list of the assets needed for each of our 35-50 annual campaigns and projects;
manage the creative process for each campaign/project, including assigning tasks in Asana and ensuring that each member of the communications team has what he/she needs to provide his/her materials in a timely way;
respond to requests from team members for new or updated materials; and develop new processes as needed to continually improve and streamline project management.
Ensure the output of the communications team meets organizational standards and improves over time:
serve as a writing editor, ensuring that written work promotes GCCM’s core values and effectively motivates audiences to take action;
serve as a visual editor, ensuring that websites, designs, and videos adhere to GCCM’s style guides and compellingly represent us; and
manage iteration of websites, email, and social media in collaboration with data
manager, lead web developer/designer, and social media coordinator.
Develop and implement strategy:
co-create and manage the organization’s communications calendar, updating it quarterly and weekly;
contribute to milestone projects such as the development of a new website, style guide, and platform;
contribute to communications strategies for campaigns and for the organization as a whole; and
ensure that all strategic decisions are implemented in the work of the team.
Liaise with team members, partners, and journalists:
liaise with leaders of GCCM’s national and regional teams to understand their individual communications needs and incorporate them into the communications calendar;
liaise with partner institutions to support their communications projects; and as needed, liaise with journalists to respond to queries and provide interviews.
Co-manage communications team:
serve as the line manager to five full-time staff members and to one part-time staff member;
provide coaching to staffers who are themselves responsible for line management;
participate in a matrix management system;
co-lead weekly communications team calls; and
collaborate with team members across departments and cultures.
The incumbent may also complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements Candidates should meet the following criteria:
have 5 to 7 years’ experience as a communications manager or director;
have experience working in a very fast-paced environment;
have experience working in an advocacy organization;
demonstrate an ability to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities;
demonstrate an ability to innovate;
demonstrate an ability to bring the best out of a small team;
understand ecological issues and faith communities’ place in the environmental movement; and
be comfortable working in a faith-based organization.
Languages Flawless fluent English is required and professional Spanish is strongly preferred
Other languages (especially Portuguese, Italian, or French) are a plus
Location: Anywhere, ideally in Latin America
