Diocese of Cheyenne

The Diocese of Cheyenne was established in 1887 and encompasses the entire state of Wyoming, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

The rich history of Catholicism in Wyoming began on July 5, 1840, when Father Pierre-Jean DeSmet said the first Catholic Mass near Horse Creek, at the Green River Rendezvous, in present-day Sublette County.

Fosters strong collaboration among leaders of the six Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cheyenne, located in Casper, Cheyenne, Gillette, Riverton, Rock Springs, and Sheridan, serving approximately 800 students. On behalf of the Bishop, oversees Catholic Schools in accord with Canon 796-806.  Supports principals and school leaders in deepening Catholic mission and identity, advancing professional growth, and strengthening the ongoing formation of school boards. In support of these shared priorities, collaborates closely with the Bishop through an active and trusting relationship with the Diocesan Catholic Schools Council.
