Comptroller

The Comptroller ensures the financial integrity, transparency, and long-term fiscal health of the school so that resources are used responsibly in service of student learning. By providing accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and reliable financial systems, the Comptroller safeguards the school’s ability to achieve its urgent mission. The role exists to create stability, trust, and clarity in all financial operations so school leaders can make mission-aligned decisions grounded in accurate data.

  • Role-Specific Competencies: Financial reporting, GAAP expertise, budgeting, internal controls, compliance, audit prep, process design, and supervision.
  • Required Knowledge: GAAP, governmental accounting, school finance regulations, grants, bond compliance, insurance requirements, and financial software.

Primary Outcomes:

  • Financial Systems Are Accurate, Reliable, and Timely — Leadership receives accurate, on-time financial information; reconciliations are completed consistently; staff trust financial systems.
  • Budget Implementation Is Mission-Aligned, Balanced, and Predictable — The budget support and implementation is efficient, responsive, and aligned to school priorities; oversight of departmental budgets is thorough and ensures compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Compliance Obligations Are Met Without Error — All federal, state, authorizer, and debt requirements are met with no missed deadlines or findings.
  • Internal Controls Prevent Errors and Safeguard Assets — Financial processes are communicated clearly with staff so as to mitigate errors; internal controls are implemented to minimize fraud risk.
  • Grants, Contracts, and Special Funds Are Managed Accurately and Punctually — Reimbursements are timely, contracts are current, and bond and grant funds are managed accurately.

Measures:

  • Financial Accuracy & Timeliness
    • Leading: monthly reconciliations with no unresolved items
    • Lagging: no major audit findings
  • Budget Management
    • Leading: internal audit complete on time; Finance Committee materials delivered on time.
    • Lagging: on-time budget submission to all stakeholders 
  • Compliance
    • Leading: all required reports submitted on time; transparency page updated promptly.
    • Lagging: zero compliance penalties
  • Internal Controls
    • Leading: monthly internal control checks through reconciliation of general ledger accounts
    • Lagging: no material weaknesses
  • Grants & Contracts
    • Leading: timely grant submissions and contract reviews
    • Lagging: complete drawdown of disbursed grant funds by year end

Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000

Department: Finance

Direct Report: Chief Financial Officer

Supplementary Benefits:
