Major Gift Officer

Position Type: Full-Time, Missionary Staff Missionary

Reports to: Advancement Director 

Location: Various remote locations including Baltimore, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan and Ohio.

Salary: 85,000-110,000 salaried with bonuses include while on staff with us

Position Summary:

This individual will lead and manage a portfolio of mission partners that will be cultivated, solicited and stewarded. Additionally, this person will annually solicit current corporate sponsors & new ones that have affinity for our mission (businesses, higher ed, apostolates), most of which is important within leading and executing table sales & sponsorships for the annual Sports Trivia Cup.

This position will require frequent local travel within the state of Ohio and intermittent travel out of state (a couple of times a year). This position will be a key contributor in a tight knit, fun and exciting department!

Position Responsibilities:

This is a critical position and key contributor to a fun, tight-knit, and exciting department.

  • Secure funds to support the sustainability of our mission
  • Lead efforts to find new & steward existing corporate sponsors.
  • Portfolio Management: Qualify, Cultivate, Solicitate, Close and Steward a portfolio of prospects and current partners.
  • Procure Corporate Sponsorships & Strategic Relationships.
  • Manage Sponsorships & Table Sales for Sports Trivia Cup.
  • Annual Fund Support Goal of 750k, set to grow over time.
  • Realign focus to maximize summer advancement events and opportunities.

Essential Characteristics:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent storytelling and persuasive writing
  • Research skills (to identify and evaluate prospective donors)
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce NPSP)
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently and manage a donor pipeline
    • Develop strategic fundraising plans
    • Handle sensitive and confidential donor information
  • Passion for the organization’s mission
  • Willingness to travel for donor visits
  • A team-oriented mindset (especially in collaborative development departments)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • 3–7+ years of fundraising experience, especially with:
    • Major gift fundraising (e.g., securing gifts of $10,000+ or more)
    • Face-to-face donor cultivation
  • Proven track record of:
    • Meeting or exceeding fundraising goals
    • Building and managing a donor portfolio
  • Experience with:
    • Moves management (tracking stages of donor engagement)
    • Capital campaigns or planned giving (optional but beneficial)

Damascus Pillars:

  • Formation: “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2). As disciples of Jesus Christ, our missionaries enter into a formation program. Academy missionaries attend formation events, in addition to fall training, 112 formation sessions, 8 missionary retreats, group studies, and more, while having the opportunity to apply formation content in their missional work.
  • Community: “Iron is sharpened by iron; one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17). Missionaries will dive deep into a community of young adults on mission. Missionaries live in men’s and women’s households that pray together, live life together, and evangelize together. 
  • Discipleship: “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). As disciples of Jesus, we are called to commit to prayer, virtue, and mentorship. In the Academy, this is done through a commitment to our Missionary Mindsets, prayer and sacramental life, and a system of pastoral support.
  • Mission: “I...chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain” (John 15:16). Our missionaries will serve thousands of people every summer and year. Through committing to a life laid down for the Gospel, missionaries can expect to bear fruit through our camps, retreats, events, and conferences, while being prepared for lifelong mission.
